Meet the Founder & Advisors

Dr. Lattisha Bilbrew

Founder | Orthopaedic Surgeon | Trailblazer

As a nonprofit, we exist to create meaningful opportunities for high school students from underrepresented backgrounds to discover, explore, and pursue careers in medicine, with the support of families, mentors, and institutions.

Dr. Bilbrew, the first Black woman partner at Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta, was inspired to become a physician after witnessing the mistreatment of her grandmother in a hospital where no Black doctors were present. Her story began with injustice, but evolved into a mission to transform the face of medicine

“I didn’t see any doctors who looked like me. So I became one.”

Real Challenges Facing Women of Color in Medicine

The statistics are sobering:

  • Less than 3% of U.S. physicians are Black women

  • Fewer than 1% hold full professorships in medical schools

  • Women of color are overburdened with unpaid DEI work

  • Many young girls of color have never been treated by a doctor who looks like them

These numbers point to a deeper crisis: a lack of representation that impacts not only careers but also health outcomes, trust in the system, and entire communities.

When girls of color don’t see themselves in medicine, they often don’t believe they belong there.

Early Exposure
